Dear Minister for Women is a protest and a vigil. It is a formal objection against how this gender has been represented politically and philosophically not only in a historical context but as it exists in the current political climate as we inch closer towards new and inhumane levels of conservatism.
We are constructing a visual archive from recent current affairs and forgotten historical facts in an attempt to make history present and accountable. Dear Minister for Women is using the concept of the hashtag as a collective curatorial archiving tool and appropriating internet memes for their critical immediacy and their accessibility, while reimagining them using traditional artforms (drawing, painting, comics, zines, bannermaking, textiles) in this physical space.
